| Description | BIO-KG Federation of Organic Development is a Kyrgyz non-profit umbrella organization founded in 2012 to lead and unite the national organic movement. It promotes organic agriculture and the conservation of Kyrgyzstan’s biocultural diversity, using the principles of health, ecology, fairness and care. BIO-KG’s key innovation is the “organic aimak” model – clusters of villages that commit to farming without synthetic chemicals at the landscape level, supported by training, local markets and Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) for certification. Today BIO-KG works with organic aimaks in more than 20 villages and thousands of certified farms, and organizes national organic fairs and farmers’ forums. For this work, it received international recognition, including the UNDP Equator Prize in 2021 for community-led sustainable development in mountain regions and IFOAM Asia Organic Medal of Honor. |
