1 - Set of principles and attributesCIHEAM-Bari will devote particular attention to the sustainability of the Mediterranean food system. CIHEAM-Bari will contribute to assess the overall sustainability of diets and food consumption patterns and to develop a framework for improving the sustainability of the diets in the Mediterranean countries, giving specific attention to the OFS where applicable.
2 - Drivers and indicators of sustainable production and consumptionCIHEAM-Bari carried out a pilot initiative to valorise typical products belonging to the regional quality scheme in Apulia region by developing sustainability guidelines, including a set of sustainability criteria/themes and indicators, in view of setting up a voluntary sustainability certification system that comply the scientifically-sound and easily applicable methodology.
3 - Actual data on sustainable production and consumptionCIHEAM-Bari will collect data regarding organic food production and on food losses and waste in the Mediterranean area. It has also a web portal dedicated to the Mediterranean diet as a sustainable food consumption pattern, linking production and consumption.
5 - Training and education toolsCIHEAM-Bari will contribute through the education programme (see http://www.iamb.it/en/education) like Master programmes, European programmes, Lifelong and Distance learning that will include topics regarding sustainable food systems. Moreover, many e-learning/distance learning courses dealing with different aspects to agro-food sustainability are available on the website of CIHEAM-Bari: http://www.iamb.it/en/education/distance_learning/course_catalogue.
6 - Case studies of food systemsCIHEAM-Bari will through the valorisation of traditional and typical foods, including organic as well, work on improvement of the sustainability of the Mediterranean food systems and to preserve their diversity and collective identity on regional, interregional and Mediterranean level.
7 - Workshops/roundtablesCIHEAM-Bari will organize in the framework of financed projects and initiatives workshops and conferences for the promotion of secure and sustainable food systems that involve a wide range of stakeholders in exchange of opinions and best practises related to sustainability principles in food systems transformation and transition pathways especially in the Mediterranean area.
