Deliverable | Notes |
---|---|
1 - Set of principles and attributes | The promotion of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) and farmer-based organisations and sustianable food systems are key objectives of ICED. ICED will contribute to this deliverable through its VEGEFARMING project proposal which focuses on sustainable food systems and diets in Ghana. It’s a priority of Ghana’s development strategy. |
3 - Actual data on sustainable production and consumption | ICED will contribute to this deliverable by supporting SMEs’ sustainability and active participation of women in development through the project proposal “Increasing Shea Value through the Promotion of Producer Advocacy in Upper West Region (SHEAVALUE)”. Enhancing women’s access to economic opportunities in the shea value chain is our aim. |
4 - Policy reform proposals/arguments | ICED adopts transdisciplinary approaches and participatory action research to elicit active involvement of relevant development stakeholders in investigating biodiversity and food systems. For example, in 2009, prepared a paper on “An Assessment of Forest Resources Policy and Management in Ghana” which may be relevant for this Core Deliverable. |
5 - Training and education tools | Information dissemination, especially with regard to the the projects ICED has lined up (VEGEFARMINF, SHEAVALUE, LAMDAM, Food Hub) provide ample opportunities to deploy our information management skills to transfer sustainable food systems knowledge to smallholder farmers and consumers in Ghana and beyond. |
6 - Case studies of food systems | ICED has implemented sustainable agricultural projects and organised several capacity building programmes on the subject, e.g. ”Sustainable Food Production, Income Generation and Poverty Reduction in Ghana (SIP)” from 2004-2008. The results of these projects could be used as case studies on stakeholders participation in transformative agricultural practices and children nutritional requirements. |
7 - Workshops/roundtables | ICED has acquired high competences in organizing workshops/roundtable, training programmes and conferences over the years for various stakeholders in West Africa. These skills will contribute to this deliverable. ICED will contribute to Deliverable , especially via the VEGEFARMING, SHEAVALUE and LAMDAM project proposals see Annexes 1 to 3). |
8 - Clusters/knowledge sharing | ICED aims to build strategic partnerships with smallholder farmers and key stakeholders in West Africa to establish Food Hubs and food processing incubators for promoting transformative sustainable food systems. The “Food Hub – A systems Approach to Inclusive Agribusiness” proposal submitted to UNEP will contribute to achieving this deliverable. |
