1 - Set of principles and attributes | Through multidisciplinary set of approaches, FINS is the leader in establishing sustainable food system in Serbia initiating development and dissemination of Sustainable Food Based Dietary Guidelines (SFBDG) as the first national dietary guidelines. This is of great importance, considering the fact that Serbia is almost the only country in Europe which do not have any guidelines related to dietary patterns. |
2 - Drivers and indicators of sustainable production and consumption | With close cooperation with stakeholders along the whole value chain including food producers, processors, food service providers, traders, research and education institutions, as well as governmental and nongovernmental organizations, FINS contribute through its huge network to prompt transformation processes towards sustainable food systems including sustainable diets. |
3 - Actual data on sustainable production and consumption | With Strong support of governmental institutions such as Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Republic of Serbia, Ministry of Education and Technological Science RS and diverse Associations like Association of Nutritionists of Serbia, National Associations of Consumers, FINS assures availability of information and sustainable distribution through various communication channels. |
4 - Policy reform proposals/arguments | Development of Sustainable Food Based Dietary Guidelines in Serbia intend to be used as a basis for networking Serbia with South Eastern Europe and other European countries worldwide. This would be model for setting up SFBDG in other SEE countries (Czech, Slovakia, Lithuania, Bulgaria etc.) where they are lacking and assist in meeting their commitments on healthy diets. Such project approach will strengthen capacities at country and regional levels. |
5 - Training and education tools | As one of the leading research institutes in food and feed science and technology in Serbia and South Eastern Europe, the institute has extensive expertise and experience in applying the latest scientific achievements in research, transfer of knowledge and organization of conferences, trainings, educations targeted stakeholders along the whole values chain. |
6 - Case studies of food systems | Running National project “New products based on cereals and pseudo cereals from organic farming systems“ interlinks sustainable, organic agriculture and food processing, with emphasis on food safety and functional contribution of nutrition enhanced with the products based on alternative cereals, contributes to the overall sustainability in food systems addressing market development of new products with added value. |
7 - Workshops/roundtables | With close cooperation with relevant governmental authorities, public procurements, stakeholders from food and feed industry FINS continuously takes active participation and contribution in different workshops an roundtables aiming to improve integration of sustainable agriculture production in the whole food value chain, including production, processing and food waste management with environmental protection. |
8 - Clusters/knowledge sharing | According to specific regional categories and requirements, FINS is devoted to set up sustainable actions according to different geographical regions and diet and lifestyle behaviors, which will improve dietary and health system based on sustainable values which will ultimately prevent and decrease the most common health disorders through the education and raised awareness of end users. |
