| 2 - Drivers and indicators of sustainable production and consumption | "To create the awareness to School, College students, public and government officials during the Garden visit we educate the awareness to healthy food. To create consumer awareness, we organize health camps and traditional food festivals in villages, schools, colleges and also with universities through which we educate the consumers, women, youths on healthy foods. We also involve school children and college students as messenger to carry this information with their parents and fellow children in the villages, schools and colleges. We also do advocacy work with the state and authorities in bringing policy support for bringing millets in Public Distribution Systems and Noon meal programs run by the State." |
| 3 - Actual data on sustainable production and consumption | The small farmers groups has been registered as Kadavoor orgnic farmers’ federation with 229 no’s farmers and a continuation this registered federation are moving towards establishing the farmers producer company. 229 farmers have been applied for organic certification to Tamil Nadu Organic Certification Department. Links have been established and strengthened with the Agriculture Department, Farmers’ Science Centre and forest department for technical and other inputs/support for obtaining soil and water analysis periodically, getting tree saplings for distribution etc., The linkages establishment- Drip irrigation, insurance and inputs. stablishing of a strong Farmers federation, Linkage with markets, Organic certification, Processing and adding value added products. |
| 4 - Policy reform proposals/arguments | ISS is currently working in 6 panchayats covering of about 25 villages with 400 small farmers. The farmers, woman, youth and children are undergone periodical training and exposure visit programs to attain self reliant and through sustainable organic farming. ISS is functioning Schools are The School of Biodynamic farming and Higher secondary School and totally 300 students studying the both schools.We have been associated with existing governments departments like Agriculture department, horticulture and agriculture marketing, local schools, forest departments and KVK. ISS also implementing projects such as Small farmer empowerment BERAS – India and School of Biodynamic farming associated with government departments. |
