Deliverable Notes
1 - Set of principles and attributesConduct multidisciplinary survey on the present production status, capability of farmers, consumption pattern of organic food products, activities of support agencies/institutions and service providers as they influence the attainment of sustainable food systems. Scaling up of actions through advocacy for nutrition education and thereby proffering practical solutions to the challenges.
2 - Drivers and indicators of sustainable production and consumptionMonitoring of the impact by climate change, land-use conflicts, access to improved inputs on individual and groups on agricultural production, use of food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) and other tools such as anthropometry, dietetic and behavioral change indicators. Public nutrition education for all stakeholders involved in consumption and preparation of organic foods.
3 - Actual data on sustainable production and consumptionAnnual food security surveillance and awareness in designated states, regions or countries can be done to avail the respective Governments their food situation and also complement existing data from the Federal Office of Statistics, Central Bank of Nigeria and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
4 - Policy reform proposals/argumentsThe findings from activities on OFSP projects will complement the current national policy tagged “The Agriculture Promotion Policy (2016-2020). Review of current food and nutrition policy and schools curriculum to involve advocacy, production and consumption and thereby assist Government in taking well informed decisions that will favour sustainable food production.
5 - Training and education toolsTraining of dietitians and nutritionist caterers on the importance of organic foods in counseling patients on food preparation under the auspices of relevant Departments of the College of Food Science and Human Ecology and Organic Agriculture Project in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria (OAPTIN) domiciled in FUNAAB. 6 - Case studies of food systemsThe OFSP Group in FUNAAB recently submitted a project proposal on Food Hub – a systems approach to inclusive agricbusiness. The participating countries are India, Nigeria, Ghana, Cuba, Dominican republic and Haiti. The deliverables of the project will increase agribusiness knowledge, improve capacity, articulate workable policies among others.
7 - Workshops/roundtablesMembers of the OFSP Group in FUNAAB belong to some National and International Professional Bodies:s OAPTIN, Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology, Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economics, Nigerian Field Society, Farm Management Association of Nigeria and they actively participate in the activities of these bodies.
8 - Clusters/knowledge sharingThe OFSP team will align to the AU-Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture (DREA) agenda, the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Plan (CAADP) Results framework, the Malabo declaration and Agenda 2063. The Team can organise conferences on organic food consumption for healthy living in with other clusters in the west Africa sub-region.
