4 - Policy reform proposals/argumentsSEKEM and HU participated in the national mega project of reclaiming and cultivating one millionFeddans, in 2015 SEKEMheld anational multi-stakeholdersworkshopnamed"1 Million Feddansfor Life"thatguided by the governmental initiative where governmental representatives attendedto discuss the possibility of planting theseareasin organic.
5 - Training and education toolsThrough EGYMAP project, HU conducted several training programmes for farmers and agriculturalengineers onsustainable cultivation and production of different food and medicinal crops in upperEgypt, also a farmer’s guideline document is developed. HU is developing an ATLAS for sustainablecultivation of Egyptian plants.
6 - Case studies of food systemsSEKEMhelpedmore than700Egyptianfarmers to shift from conventional to Organic Agriculture,SEKEM also plays an instrumental rolein the global organic movementas part of the SustainableOrganic Agriculture Action Network (SOAAN) Steering Committee and as an Organic Ambassador.SEKEM is also a member of IFOAM Network.
7 - Workshops/roundtablesSEKEMandHUareworking with different stakeholders along the food chain such as farmers andfarmersassociations alloverEgypt, suppliers, Governmental organizations, food chambers,research institutes, exporters, etc. Thus it can contribute to organizing stakeholders’ events atdifferent national and international levels.
8 - Clusters/knowledge sharingHU has established an Agri-Food network for knowledge sharing and exchange at a national level,SEKEM and HU are alsopartners in several international clusters and networks working onsustainable development aspects, e.g. EMEG: Euro-Mediterranean expert groups, Trinex:Triangle of Water Energy Food Nexus, and others.
